milagroelstak asked:

Some of the best pictures from APOD. APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) is a site that displays a new picture of the universe everyday with a description of what is show written by a real astronomer. Check out APOD at http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html.
The music is Paint the Night with stars by Enya

As an amateur astronomer and long-time Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) fan, I recognize many of these pictures. In fact, one of them is my desktop wallpaper right now.

It is as if we are a reflection of this from afar. Someone, somewhere, maybe standing on their planet gazing at the sky with their loved one ans see our Sun’s bright light shining. Could it be someones brightest star in the sky. When I realize just how huge this universe I feel so very small. That is a good thing in this ego filled world we inhabit. If more people realzed what a small part of the big pivture we are, their role would be more significant in the grand scheme of things. Peace and Love

Yes I know it is overwhelming that such a simple pleasure casts a world far bigger than anything we can imagine redily.

I often don’t understand how people don’t seem to understand this, sometimes I just need to stop what I’m doing to ponder this thought, it blows my mind.

It’s ironic that when we look up at the night sky we are seeing bodies of superheated gas that are millions of times bigger than the Earth and that are often times dozens of lightyears away from us and each other. And to think our sun is just one of these and that from a planet orbiting one of those stars, the Sun might look like one of those stars.
