pink floyd perform astronomy domine …look of the week
Syd was a great guitar player, and an absolutely amazing songwriter. Roger followed only one, and his name was Syd.

Syd turned music upside down ..the influence survives in strange places in modern day music

Yeah me too, saw born of Pink Floyd, saw young Gilmour, heard them live.

Anyway, I love all the songs they have ever written with or without Syd and that’s the point.
I wish I lived in the 60s..

I guess we will never know.. Maybe drugs helped him in the first place to express himself in such way… I believe that during the barrett-era, pink floyd produced more poetic songs. When I listen to them I feel as though syd was using every single part of his soul and mind to write them. When barrett left maybe their music was “better” in a technical way and the sound felt more “complete” but the meaning of the songs when barrett was writing them work better for me..

Floyd with Barrett were good, but not phenomenal like they were with Gilmour. Now part of that should be due to Barrett since he was a big inspiration to some of their songs. Drugs can help a lot of rock stars with their songwriting ie. Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Doors…but with Barrett I believe the opposite occurred. Who knows how good he could of been without acid. It’s a shame really.

If technique was that important, music wouldn’t evolve from a point, and painting would have stopped at Rennaissance

I didn’t say he WAS the best guitarist ever… I said he WASN’T.. Obviously Hendrix, Allman, Cooder and Clapton (etc etc) were technically better than Barrett.. But is the technical part the most important? And this question doesn’t refer only to music. It’s the same thing about all arts. Even in painting, is technique the most important part? Isn’t it the best way to express what the artist has in his mind?

I mean, my problem with this isn’t that it’s loud. My problem is that Syd Barrett is always heralded as some music god, and he had no more talent than anyone else in the band. If anything, he had less. Frankly, I love them tons more without him.

Are you serious? NO ONE will ever be as good as Lennon and McCartney.

Syd Barrett? A genius? Pink Floyd got tons better after he left. And the greatest guitarist ever? You’re telling me that Barrett was better than Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan? That’s the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard. I mean, listen to this song. It’s toal crap. “Comfortably Numb” or “Money” are way better songs. They only really found their sound after he left. The guy on this interview was kind of a jerk, though.

Syd Barrett is “ok”??? Barrett was a genius. He was the only one who was really interested in music and could express in such way the feelings and thoughts of an era.. you should watch some recent interviews where Waters claims that exact thing.
Technically he wasn’t the best guitarist ever.. but no one said that in first place.

Hans Keller didn’t know how stupid his comment was. Bet ya if he heard Dark Side Of The Moon He’d change his statement

He even summed things up perfectly: “…’tis a little bit of a regression to childhood. But, after all, why not?” Kind of ironic, isn’t it? I mean, it bears resemblance to a certain line…”caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom”, I believe it went…

Give Hans a break. This was, what, ’67 or ’68?
For his day Hans would have been considered a raving liberal for even putting the **** on. Otherwise it would have been “Get those fucking long haired faggots off the stage and out of the studio or you’re fired!”
Fantastic clip!
