Seriously, Red Planet was just awful.
A few clarifications: Liquid water on the surface of Mars is an issue, because the low atmospheric pressure allows it to boil away within a few hours. The features at Cydonia Mensae are absolutely *NOT* artificial. They are perfectly consistent with well documented geological processes. The smiley crater is called Galle crater (named for J.G. Galle.) Yes, I’m aware of the controversy over whether or not water or dry landslides are responsible for Martian gullies – the point I’m making is that in attempting to study these features, scientists have produced numerical models proving that liquid water could have been involved (and is not impossible, as Spike stated.) Mars lost its magnetic field because a Giant, Magnetic Field-Eating Space Duck popped by for a snack in May, 1337. The inhabitants at the time were single-celled, and thus hadn’t really developed the necessary military strategy to combat gargantuan space-faring birds.
In response to a couple more questions: The “Great Galactic Ghoul” is a NASA in-joke dreamt up to explain why so many Mars missions fail. I couldn’t balance water on mars bars; I had to photoshop it because water is impossible on mars.
I jest. The picture was actually released as NASA’s astronomy picture of the day in 2005 (on April 1st, of course.)

I wasn’t talking about the lack of mention of Jesus in archeology and more verifiable sources. I was explaining how the lack of mention of galaxies in the bible doesn’t say much. It is almost like saying a text book on math must be wrong if it doesn’t include an explanation of how the Moon orbits Earth. Failure to include every useless detail imaginable in a book doesn’t make the book wrong. The bible has many contradictions so no one has to resort to this weak reasoning.

wonderful video as always – keep up the great work!!

Well, there is a scientific approach to history and archeology that’s known as the “argument from silence”. If you claim something but there is no credible evidence to back up your claim in the historical or archaeologic record, then your claim fails.
For example, the complete lack of mention of the activities of Jesus in the contemporaneous historical and archaeologic records is an argument from silence that he never existed as a “real” man, but was probably a composite character, or mythical.

DAMN IT!
I’m subscribed to AW, but for some reason when he puts up a video it doesn’t show up on my subscriptions box. I wouldn’t even have known he put out a new one if it wasn’t for the ‘Problem with Creationism’ group.
Anyone know *** is up with that?

When you think creationism can’t get lower.

For some reason 5 stars used to be “awesome,” now it’s “excellent,” but whichever word you consider more complimentary, that’s what I’m giving this video.

Firefox is not being too user friendly at the moment. My comments are critical of OC and his refusal to accept any evidence presented by many credible sources. The next creationist battle as report by Robin Loyd of Live Science is from the Muslim community where they have sent univeristies copies of the “Atlas of Creation” and they command that we accept the of views of Adnan Oktar aka Harun Yahya. Basically he observed the intelligent design case and came up with another approach.

Maybe galaxies are left out of the bible because it isn’t a crucial detail for most people. It isn’t humanly possible to know everything so why would a book for people be written with the intent to teach everything there is to know? If you want to show it wrong, look at the contradictions for things in it instead of details that were left out.

Hey, you misquoted him! He never said “no plausible physics”; he said “no paulsible physics”. YOU FILTHY, DISHONEST EVILUTIONIST!

Red Planet was cheesy. Now Red Dwarf was a hilarious show.

You attempt to portray yourself as this bastion of knowledge yet your words and logic project an image of limited knowledge. The likes of you and your kind are a hindrance on the progress of mankind.

10 DEC 2008, NASA/JPL noted the center of the Milky Way galaxy is indeed a black hole. Back in the day when I had taken astronomy it was believed to have been a black hole yet true scientist sought more data to prove their case. Today they have more evidence to make that claim. Not sure if they still use Messier nomenclature but eventually YOU will be obliterated by M31. Hawking believes those with knowledge will escape this; hopefully leaving the likes of you behind.

I got their credo off their website:
“. . .the only absolutely trustworthy information about the origin and purpose of all that exists and happens is given by God, our Creator and Redeemer, in his infallible, preserved word, the Holy Bible. All scientific endeavor which does not accept this revelation from on high without any reservations, literary, philosophical or whatever, we reject as already condemned in its unfounded first assumptions. ”
That’s Christian scientific method for ya

Hey AW,
I came across some modern geocentrism and thought I’d toss it your way:

No. They did not.
The Romans wrote about the cult of Jesus; in other words, the new Jewish sect.
There is not one word, not one, about Jesus himself written by someone who was there at the time witnessing his supposed ministry.
You’ve been lied to if you believe otherwise.
hmmmmmmm….
