Ofcourse something was missing :) Syd had a huge influence on the PF music, in the beginning.. and they had to find a new “balance” in the band, without him.. a new “voice”, so to speak. However, I do feel that they found that “voice” and that David, Roger, Rick and Nick, made awesome music together and yes Syd was still part of their music. “Shine on..” was, like I’m sure you know, about Syd.. They really loved the guy and was tormented by the loss.

I for one am very greatful for 40 years of sheer bliss, flying through the Pink Floyd universe..

Yes but the floyd never was as omogen as in the years with syd. There was something missing, Waters admitted it! Every album has a part of Syd in it, first WISH YOU WERE HERE, then THE WALL!!!!

They didn’t kick him out for the fun of it. They really loved and respected Syd and his genius. However, you cannot blame them for wanting to “survive” as a band, that had something very unique going on. Syd chose to do acid, so much, that it affected the band negatively. He couldn’t perform. Pink Floyd would never have been able to live out their potential and mastery, with Syd on acid all the time. We all feel sad for Syd, but he did it to himself. The rest of the band just wanted to succeed..

mason, for me, better than bonzo, or any drummer

Nick Mason said in his book, Inside Out, that he experimented with the Keith Moon style of drumming for a while. Must have been exhausting! Love Roger getting crazy on the bass here.

Mason is incredible here!

The Nile Song is total Punk Floyd.

So our records aren’t selling here”-Roger Water
Pink Floyd were not very commercial until Dark Side of the Moon because up until then they never even had a gold record. Piper has even gone gold now.

yeah that bloke should’ve stayed in a string quartet than taking the **** out of such an influential band.

i bet my house he’s Syd.

maybe that’s because punk bands can’t deal with such complex songs structures. PF’s attitude may be punk-like, but their music is closer to prog, more than punk.
