my only critisism of Imaginos is that the production is a tad muddy – no doubt it’s due to the endless overdubs it took to complete. if it were ever remastered with less reverb it would be even better than it already is.

This is a really rare version of Astronomy because Buck Darhma sings lead vocals on it, the other ten times this song appears on a BOC album Eric Bloom sings the lead vocal track, I will have to pick up Imaginos to see if Buck really did lay down the vocals for Astronomy on that album. And yes Metallica’s cover of this song is completely kick-ass, but it will never be as hypnotic & real as when BOC does it.

I dissagree. BOC’s version is damn good. Metallica’s is good as well, but the song doesn’t fit a heavier style, IMO. The only cover that is better than the origional is Jimmy Hendrix’s version of “all Along The Watchtower”.

Imaginos is the epilogue to the trilogy consisting of the first 3 BOC albums. It is the completion of the mythology that runs throughout the first 3 albums and wraps up the storyline perfectly. To criticize this version of Astronomy as being too tame is to entirely miss the fucking point. In spite of how long it took to complete – Imaginos turned out to be one of the most consistent BOC records, and also one of their best.

I reckon both metallicas verion and BOC version of this song are good. Although i like metallicas better for a couple reaons
1. I love the sound of metallicas guitars
2. I love hetfields voice
3. Its a heavier
